Aufgrund dieser herausragenden Stellung soll in dieser Arbeit die Säkularisierung christlicher Feste am Beispiel des Weihnachtsfestes in Deutschland untersucht werden.
Hierfür erfolgt eine Einteilung in zwei Abschnitte. In einem ersten Schritt wird die Säkularisierung der Gesellschaft dargestellt. Hierfür werden einige Gründe angeführt, die funktionale Differenzierung als Merkmal der modernisierten Gesellschaft erläutert und die Rolle der faith heute vorgestellt. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Weihnachtsfest in Deutschland.
Um dieses systematisch zu präsentieren, wird dieser Punkt in drei Unterpunkte gegliedert. So wird zunächst das Weihnachtsfest aus christlicher Sicht untersucht, wobei auf den Ursprung des Weihnachtsfestes sowie dessen Bedeutung eingegangen wird. Des Weiteren erfolgt eine knappe Darstellung des Weihnachtsfestes aus historischer Sicht. Drittens wird das Weihnachtsfest aus gesellschaftlicher Sicht dargestellt. Hierbei wird wiederum die Entstehung und Entwicklung beschrieben, zudem das Brauchtum und die culture erläutert und schließlich auf die Bedeutung heute eingegangen. In einem Fazit wird der relative Bedeutungsverlust des Weihnachtsfestes im heutigen säkularisierten Deutschland evaluiert.
